“It is not the retention of salvation that is in the apostle’s mind, but the possession of it that would be shown by their continuance in the gospel.” - Kenneth Wuest

Colossians 1:23 - The sense of this is “If indeed, and I am confident that you are going to continue in the faith firmly established and steadfast…”

Interpretations of the “thrown away” branches in John 15

- Christians who have lost their salvation [but this contradicts many other passages in John and the NT]

- Christians who will lose rewards but not salvation at the judgment seat of Christ

- Professing Christians who, like Judas, are not genuinely saved and therefore are judged

“They went out from us, but they were not really of us; for if they had been of us, they would have remained with us; but they went out, so that it would be shown that they all are not of us.”- 1 John 2:19
