Those Solemn Warnings (Part 2) || Classic Service

Oct 26, 2025

Sermon Notes:

|| Psalm 69:27-28 ||

- (vs. 1-21) David expresses his pain in the midst of his situation

- (vs. 22-28) David requests that punishment be inflicted on his enemy

- (vs. 29-36) David determines to praise God in his situation

- David is not praying that God would send all of his enemies to hell to burn eternally. What he is saying is ‘kill them.’

- Every verse that talks about blotting names out of the book of life is in the OT and the context is that a person’s earthly life will be taken away, not someone’s eternal salvation taken away.

- The book of life that is mentioned in the NT, particularly in Revelation, is not same book of life that is mentioned here in Psalms or the other books of the OT.

- There is not a single mention of a person’s name being blotted out of the book of life spoken of in the New Testament; a person’s name is either found written in it, or it is not.

“All who dwell on the earth will worship him [Antichrist], everyone whose name has not been written from the foundation of the world in the book of life of the Lamb who has been slain.” - Revelation 13:8

When does a person’s name get into the Book of Life?

- Before the foundation of the world

“And those who dwell on the earth, whose name has not been written in the book of life from the foundation of the world, will wonder when they see the beast, that he was and is not and will come.” - Revelation 17:8b

|| Matthew 24:8-13 ||

1- It is difficult because Jesus uses a mix of prophetic and apocalyptic utterances

2- It is difficult because Jesus makes few clear chronological distinctions

3- It is difficult because there is not a consensus among Christian commentators as to its interpretation

- Perseverance marks the already saved. Perseverance marks the true saints.
